ski data
2015

Ski Data is a spontaneous type design that was initially made by Tariq Heijboer at his typography class, wile studying at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Part of the assignment was to pick random words collected on little papers from a jar. Tariq worked with the words ‘data’ and ‘skiing’.  He associated those words with low-res pixelised dancing letters and found a way to make that idea work into a typeface. He did that by moving a letter over a photocopy-machine while making a copy. Timing of the movement was important, to reach a similar feel for every character, since it was an analogue making process at first. Later it was digitalised and extended into a more complet set of characters. There are two versions combined into one font, the alphabet moving sideways, and the alphabet upwards. Next to this version there is a vertical only version of the font available. In this version the whole alphabet is scanned vertically only.
